Privacy Policy

Effective September 28, 2026. Applies to Gradus 1.0 for iPhone and iPad.

Summary: Gradus does not send your data to its developer or to anyone else. Your practice data is stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud database. There are no accounts, ads, tracking or analytics.

What Gradus stores

Gradus stores what you enter or create while practicing:

• your instrument profiles, playing level and practice settings
• repertoire, measure maps, goals, focus areas and next-practice notes
• practice sessions, plans, technique tempos, journal entries, lesson notes and teacher assignments
• audio recordings you make

This data is stored in the app on your device.

iCloud sync

If you are signed in to iCloud, Gradus syncs your practice data (everything above except audio recordings and any session in progress) to your private iCloud database using Apple CloudKit, so it appears on your other devices. Only your Apple Account can read that database; the developer of Gradus cannot see it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's privacy policy.

Gradus remembers which iCloud account it last synced with. If a different account signs in on the device, Gradus pauses sync and asks before merging any data into that account.

Gradus works fully without iCloud.

Recordings and photos

Audio recordings stay on the device where you made them. They are never uploaded to iCloud by Gradus. They leave the device only if you share or export one yourself.

When you photograph handwritten lesson notes, the text is recognized on your device using Apple's Vision framework. Gradus keeps the text you approve, not the photo.

Permissions

• Microphone: requested the first time you record. Used only for recordings you start.
• Camera: requested the first time you photograph lesson notes.
• Notifications: used to tell you when a practice block's planned time is up.

You can change these at any time in the iOS Settings app. Gradus also shows the running session on the Lock Screen as a Live Activity while you practice.

Analytics, ads and tracking

Gradus 1.0 collects no analytics and contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking code. It does not track you across other apps or websites.

If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may provide the developer with crash reports and basic usage statistics. That is controlled by Apple and by your iOS settings, not by Gradus.

If a future version adds optional analytics, it will be off until you turn it on, and this policy will be updated before that version is released.

Deleting and exporting your data

• Delete individual sessions, lessons, journal entries, pieces, technique entries or recordings inside Gradus.
• Clear all practice history in Progress → Settings → Clear Practice History.
• Export your practice data as CSV files in Progress → Settings → Export Practice Data.
• Deleting the app removes its data from that device. Synced data can be removed from your iCloud storage settings (Settings app → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage).

Children

Gradus has no accounts and does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Email

If you email support, the developer receives what you send, including your email address, and uses it only to answer you.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date before the app version it describes is released.
